Drawing Class. Session 2. Homework: 8min portrait.

November 3, 2011

Wednesday. More-or-less continuous line, with the dominant right hand. Next time, will be more courageous and do with continuous line by the left hand. This started off with reading Nancy Mitford’s first novel, but that turned out to be soporific. After the initial attempt, the setting sun cast sharper shadows. Need to concentrate on that “band” around the human head that takes in the nose and ears.

Thursday.  Proof (as if proof was needed!) that doing a foundation sketch with the left hand, while initially slower and more tentative, gives a better result than the right hand. I finished just at the point when the right-hand was ready to take over with adding the details, including tone, to the foundation.
